Circle of Fashion

Anyone will tell you that fashion works in cycles. Highly respected designers take a trend from the 60s, 70s or currently 80s and rework the trend in their vision. For Autumn/Winter 09 there's an explosion of studs and glitter and sequins, rock and roll with a glamorous twist. But this of course has already been done. Whilst looking through my sister's old Elle magazines, I came across a spread about trends of a/w 07. Its similar to trends of this year, but today we've taken the whole 'rock and roll' trend further with the addition of glitter and sequins and putting studs on everything within our reach. I just though I'd share with you what we were wearing two years ago, after all it does hurt anyone to have a look back at the past. Give it a few years and you might be considered a trend setter for wearing the hottest 'new' piece first.

PS I remember that Burberry Prorsum dress in right hand corner of the second page, I coveted it badly, and I still want it!

PPS. I wouldn't say no to the Pink studied Giles handbag (even though pink isn't really a colour I wear much of I'll make an exception) and I love the white Richard Nicoll playsuit in the left hand corner in the middle of the page.

Why I like Alexa Chung

I don't really know why I like Alexa Chung. I don't know her as a person. I've never even met her before. However, she appears to be nice and friendly and a good time girl. However, regardless of her character I know one thing for sure that I like about her. Her style. Alexa has great style, she knows how to dress her body ("I believe in dressing to suit your shape. I don't have cleavage, so I flash my long legs") and her personality, which many people find difficult. Alexa and I have way way waay different body types. She's a lot skinner than me, with longer legs, whereas my height comes from the torso. What I like about Alexa's style is that she has a ladylike dress sense with an edge, which is very much my style: something elegant, timeless, a little bit traditional and dressed up, mixed with something "edgy" (for want of a better word) to toughen the look up a bit. Not too assume however that this is Alexa's thought process when getting dressed in the morning, she may very well pick up the cleanest thing she can find and run out of the door (not my style). But whatever Alexa does to look so fabulous when leaving the house, I hope she doesn't stop because she has truly amazing personal style, and even on the rare occasion that she's wearing something I don't like (I'm not sure if this has ever happened) it still looks really good on her even though I may not be brave enough to try it.

Everyone's a writer

This year seems to be the year that fashion takes over all areas of the media. Everyone is aware of the fashionable films Coco before Chanel and the soon to be released The September issue, I recently posted about the theatre production of Breakfast at Tiffany's, and now fashion books seem to be the hottest thing of the season. Last year, fashion stylist (and the lady in my header) Rachel Zoe released her first style book Style from A to Zoe, and Mary Kate and Ashley also released their fashion book Influence.
This September books by Louis Vuitton, WhoWhatWear, The Sartorialist, and Teen Vogue are all being published and I'm excited to buy the books because I think they'll all be pretty informative and great fashion coffee table books. I'm defintely getting the Teen Vogue hand book and the Who What Wear book.

Meet Moises

Oscar De La Renta has always been well known for his amazing Haute Couture creations and being a hit at the Oscars with his gorgeous well made designs. However, his son Moises De La Renta has decided to put his own personal style out into the world of fashion by creating his own collection: MDLR (which stands for Moises De La Renta).

The images below are my favourite pieces from La Renta's collection. The collection in general is small with about 20 pieces, but its all about quality not quantity.
When being interviewed by Blackbookmag.com Moises described his collection here: "...its definetly for the girl who likes to have fun, for the girl who feels like a rock star even though she may not be. My clothes are just about having fun and being comfortable with oneself". To catch the rest of the interview click here.

The collection is under $1000 but still most likely out of my price range. Visit here for more on the collection.

What do you think of Moises' collection?

The September trousers

The arrival of the September fall/winter magazines always gets me excited for the new season. Despite it not even been mid August and the sun is only now starting to come out in London, I'm ready for winter clothing. I think I like fall fashion better than summer because there is more variation whereas in the summer its just gladiator sandals and nautical style.

Anyway, the trousers I'll be purchasing by the end of the week in preparation for the winter are these Chinos by Gap.

They look really soft and the white pair have this luxe feeling about them, that I'm tempted to get that instead of the safe colours I was considering like camel or navy blue. Apparently the chinos are already selling out fast which doesn't surprise me because they look great. I particularly like how they were styled by Glamour magazine (scroll up) and how Teen Vogue styled them really simply on Taylor Momsen (their September issue cover girl) and went heavy on the accessories. I decided to take a different approach with no accessories and let the sparkly tops shine.

From left to right: Blue top 'poppy scream tea blouse' £35 Topshop. Ivory Flower Sequin top £45 Topshop.

Bottom Row: Charcoal rose Body £18 Miss Selfridge. Ivory Cardigan with silk corsage, £118 Diane Von Furstenberg Matchesfashion.com

Chinos, The Gap £29.50

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Every magazine/newspaper seems to be writing about the latest fashion film: Coco Before Chanel and creating spreads of timeless classics invented by Chanel.
However something that's been overlooked (perhaps because its not out until September) is the theatre adaption of Truman Capote's novel and the film that made Audrey Hepburn an icon: Breakfast at Tiffany's. The leading role of Holly Golightly is being played by Anna Friel, I think this is a good choice and I hope she does the film and novel justice. The Costume designer for the film is Anthony ward, who has also worked on Oliver!, so we will see how he does.
Anyway I've recreated the famous image that everybody remembers from the film. Hepburn dressed in a gorgeous long black dress, dazzling diamonds and every superstars accessory: Starbucks coffee.

Don't forget your Starbucks.
Check out other images of Anna Friel as Holly Golightly here, here and here.
What do you think of the theatre adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany's? Is is a good idea? Or should they leave the classics alone?

To be Sienna Miller on a Monday

Most people claim they don't function well on Mondays and preparing an outfit for the day always proves a challenge. However, Sienna Miller is clearly not one of those people, as she stepped out in 4 great outfits yesterday and I loved them from head to toe.
Sienna was really popular around 2006/07 for her boho chic style but I wasn't a fan of the whole trend and ignored it completely until it died down. I never really liked her style but that's changed now that I've seen what she's been wearing whilst promoting her new film G.I Joe in New York.
Last week Sienna was getting great publicity for her outfit choices whilst promoting in London so it will be interesting to see where she's going to go next.
I love the Silver top she's wearing in the image on the left it goes really well with the draped skirt, and those metallic heels are a brilliant pick they compliment the outfit so well. The length of the floral dress in the middle is really unexpected but it looks good and she's really limited her accessories to let the clothes do the talking, also, the neckline on the red dress is great and looks almost sophisticated and womanly. I'd like to know whose being styling her (if she has used a stylist) they definitely deserve the credit.

What do you think of Sienna's G.I. Joe promo style.

Be back soon!

Hey sorry about the lack of posts, I'm on work experience at the moment but you'll definitely have something good for tomorrow!
